The monastery of Sanahin (10-13cc) is situated in Alaverdi region. Being persecuted by the Byzantines the Armenian clergymen founded the church of St. Godmother here in the first half of the 10th century.
The famous Haghpat monastic complex, which was founded in the times of Armenian king Abbas Bagratuni is situated in Alaverdi region, 3 km away from Sanahin.
The Russian Orthodox church of Vanadzor is located in the center of the city. Built in 1893-95, it was designed by architect Pomerantsev and is a small-size copy of St. Sofia Cathedral in Istanbul.
The monastery of Tatev was the religious center of historical Syunik princedom. For many times the monastery was destroyed by attacks, foreign invasions and earthquakes.
Sisavank cathedral is situated in Sisavan – the regional center of Sisian. It was constructed in 7th century by Kohazat prince of Syunik by the support of Hovsep bishop of Syunik and Theodoros monk.
